Direction

You plan and you plan. You prepare and you prepare. You do everything in your power to create the life you dreamt of.

You change life paths more than once. It takes you years to figure out what exactly you want to do, and who exactly you want to be. And when that plan changes, it takes you weeks to accept it.

And then, once you’ve finally accepted that your life is going a certain direction— it changes again.

And all that’s left is you— you, the moment, reality, and your future ahead.

A future you never saw for yourself. A future you’re not even sure it the right one, because, is anyone ever really sure?

Life changes direction in one day. Life changes direction in one hour. Life changes direction in one second when you finally gain a shred of clarity.

Life changes direction all the time.

And, for better or for worse, it’s not going to stop changing— it’s not going to stop forcing you to adapt.

Life changes all the time, yes. But life also works itself out. The decisions you make are almost always the right ones— simply because you made them, and in making them, you learned.

And so maybe, it’s not about what exactly we do, or where exactly we end up. Maybe it’s about how we handle the changes, how we make the decisions we make, how we accept the moment for what is, rather than daydreaming of what isn’t.

As I sit in class (oops) at the University of Nevada, I’m not where I thought I would be ten years ago. I’m not where I thought I would be five years ago. I’m not where I thought I would be thirty minutes ago when my bed was almost too comfortable to pass up (I’m here, okay).

Where I’m headed is far from where I thought I would be. It’s different than the daydreams. It’s different than the goals.

But it’s there, it’s life, it’s now.

And “now”, well, it’s my favorite time of day.
