I’m tired of this idea.
I’m tired of this idea that when you’re in a rut in your life, something big has to happen in order for it to change around.
We see it in the movies: girl is single and sad and then meets guy of her dreams that gives her a different outlook on life, boy is in dead-end job and sad and then meets girl of his dreams that gives him a different outlook on life, girl is uprooted from the life she knows and is thrown into a new one that, you guessed it, gives her a different outlook on life.
You get the idea. We see it in the movies, books— we see it a lot.
I believe in the power of relationships. I believe in the power of experiences.
I believe in the power of changing your outlook on life due to events and people that touch you.
But what I also believe in, is the power of yourself.
Your actions. Your beliefs. Your goals.
Your outlook on life.
Nothing is more important to me than the people in my life, the conversations I have, the people I have yet to meet. Nothing is more important to me than the experiences and memories I have encountered, the lessons I have learned along the way.
But above all else, nothing is more important to me than my state of mind, my outlook on life.
I don’t want to wait for the next big thing to change how I view things. I don’t want to wait for a failure or success to shove me in the right direction.
I want to change for me. I want to create my own positive outlook on life through actions, beliefs, and goals.
And as I take that on, I welcome new experiences, people, events, successes, and failures to change my outlook further. To guide me in different directions and to help me grow in ways I haven’t ever imagined for myself.
I welcome these new outlooks, these different ways of thinking— I’m just not waiting for them anymore.
Everything happens for a reason, and if you’re in a rut, I’m guessing something big will happen soon to jolt you out of it.
But if you’re in a rut, if you’re unhappy with some aspect of your life that you have the power to change— why wouldn’t you?
